    Abstract

This paper focuses on taking a look at expressions registered in the English-Korean subtitling translation of the films About Time (2013) and Midnight in Paris (2011). The registered expressions in the subtitling are mainly the items to form the plot of the film or the expressions with necessary information in the flow of some contexts. But previous researches are interested in only the omitted items and tend to overlook the registered expressions. Through the two films, this paper found that the expressions registered in the subtitling are the items to play central roles in the flow of the plot or actual contents in the conversational contexts. And the omitted items are usually discourse markers, repeated phrases, and interjection phrases with peripheral meanings in the conversations. It means whether any messages are omitted or not is dependent on the flow of the plot. So, this paper suggests that the expressions registered in the subtitling translation are necessary information in establishing the context but also have inevitable relations in the development of the plot.
